He was born in Alameda County, California. Diesel and his twin brother, Paul, were raised by their mother Delora, and their stepfather, Irving H. Vincent. Their biological father split from their mother before they were born. His mother, Delora Sherleen Vincent (née Sinclair), is an astrologer. His stepfather was a drama teacher and Diesel himself started acting at the age of 7 at the Theatre for the New City.

At the age of seven, Diesel made his stage debut in Barbara Garson’s children’s play Dinosaur Door. The drama was created at the Theatre for the New City in Greenwich Village, New York. When he, his brother, and a few others broke into the Theatre for the New City building on Jane Street to vandalize it, he became involved in the production. Crystal Field, the creative director of the theater, addressed them and, rather than contacting the police, gave them parts in the forthcoming production. Throughout his childhood, Diesel was still active in the theater. He then enrolled at Hunter College in New York City, where he pursued a degree in creative writing on his way to becoming a screenwriter.

He also started working as a club bouncer while still a teenager. He gained the hardness he displayed in several of his cinematic roles because of this profession. While the surname Diesel was given to him by friends because of his propensity for being active, Vin is derived from his mother’s married last name, Vincent.

Career.

Diesel dropped out of college to create his first film, Multi-Facial. Diesel wrote, produced, directed, and starred in this short film about an actor willing to play any ethnicity to work. The film was accepted and screened at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 1995. Diesel next directed wrote and starred in the full-length feature Strays, in which he played a tough, hard-edged drug dealer learning how to open himself up to emotional intimacy. The work was screened at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival.

Director Steven Spielberg took notice of Diesel after seeing him in Multi-Facial and cast him in a small role as a soldier in his 1998 Oscar-winning war film Saving Private Ryan. In 1999, he provided the voice of the title character in the animated film The Iron Giant.

In 2000, Diesel had a supporting role in the drama thriller Boiler Room, where he appeared alongside Giovanni Ribisi and Ben Affleck. He got his breakthrough leading role as the anti-hero Riddick in the science-fiction film Pitch Black later that year.

Diesel rose to prominence as an action hero following the box office successes of The Fast and the Furious (2001) and XXX (2002). He turned down the chance to reprise his role in the sequels XXX: State of the Union and 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) and (2005). Instead, he opted to play Riddick once more in The Chronicles of Riddick, a box office flop despite its enormous budget. In two video games that were spinoffs, as well as the anime movie The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury, he provided the character’s voice. In contrast to his prior action hero roles, he took on a lighter character in the box-office hit comedy The Pacifier in 2005.

For 2006’s Find Me Guilty, he let his famous fit physique go to play a mobster who defends himself at trial. But Diesel was soon back to his popular tough-guy persona with later installments of the Fast and Furious franchise, including Fast & Furious (2009), Fast Five (2011), Fast & Furious 6 (2013), and Furious 7 (2015), the last of which was marred by Walker’s death in a car accident before filming was complete.

In the science fiction adventure film Guardians of the Galaxy from 2014, Diesel became a part of a brand-new franchise as Groot, a tree-like character with only three words in his vocabulary. The quirky superhero movie became an international hit with a worldwide box office take of almost $770 million, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017) followed suit with an even greater sum. Additionally, Diesel provided the voice of Groot for the films Ralph Breaks the Internet, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Diesel co-starred in The Last Witch Hunter in 2015 alongside Elijah Wood and Michael Caine. The movie received mixed reviews and underwhelming box office receipts. Despite its unique aesthetics, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk (2016) again failed to win over reviewers, but Diesel’s resuscitation of well-known characters in 2017’s XXX: Return of Xander Cage and The Fate of the Furious received a warm reaction. The action hero then made his butt-kicking debut in Bloodshot (2020), a comic book adaptation about a soldier bent on vengeance who has been nanotechnologically upgraded.

Personal life.

Diesel dated Michelle Rodriguez, his Fast & Furious co-star, sometime around 2001. He has been in a relationship with Mexican model Paloma Jimenez since 2007, and the two are parents to three kids: Hania Riley (b. April 2008), Vincent Sinclair (b. 2010, and Pauline) (born March 2015). The film is dedicated in memory of Paul Walker, his friend, and co-star, who passed away in November 2013. He also serves as Meadow Walker’s godfather.
